Jeungpyeong County in North Chungcheong Province successfully staged a new original play, "Welcome to Merinol! Prescribing Hope," to enthusiastic local response. Performed at the Jeungpyeong Culture Center over two days, the production was supported by a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism program for specialized arts centers. The play, produced by the troupe "Baekkop," reimagines the story of nuns at Merinol Clinic (메리놀 시약소, Jeungpyeong’s first registered cultural property) in the chaotic aftermath of the Korean War, connecting local history to the stage. Officials said the project strengthened the cultural identity and public mission of the town’s arts venue, broadened cultural participation, and increased pride in local heritage. Audiences praised the play’s contribution to Jeungpyeong’s history, its unusually high quality for a county-level production, and the live music that enhanced the experience. The county plans to continue developing cultural content rooted in local identity so residents can more easily enjoy the arts.
