A joint Japanese study published in the journal Nutrition, Health & Aging finds that consuming ramen after drinking alcohol raises mortality risk. People who ate ramen after drinking three or more times per week had a 2.71-fold higher risk of death; those who drank more than half the ramen broth had a 1.76-fold higher risk. The effect was strongest in men under 70. Researchers warn that combining alcohol, high-calorie drinking snacks, and sodium-rich ramen (ramyeon: Korean-style instant noodles) strains the liver and increases health risks. They recommend rehydrating with water or electrolyte drinks and replenishing vitamins and minerals instead of eating ramen after drinking.
