The musical ‘OJige Jammin' Fun Gashina,’ which opened at the National Theater in Seoul, captures the story of elderly women from Chilgok County (in North Gyeongsang Province) who learn to read and write Korean in their later years and find joy and excitement in writing poetry. The show is inspired by real-life experiences of these women attending literacy classes designed to help adults struggling with reading and writing gain confidence and improve their daily lives. The musical, directed by Kim Jae-hwan, transforms their authentic stories into a joyful artistic expression, embodying themes of resilience and creativity. This heartwarming tale, chosen as one of the '2024 New Plays of the Year' by the Arts Council Korea, brings audiences laughter, nostalgia, and inspiration by conveying the beauty of lifelong learning and the power of poetry.
