On December 5 in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul, an exclusive art-dining event at Playa Lounge showcased Hibiki’s philosophy of harmony through an integrated experience of visual art, whisky tasting and a paired menu. Artist Heo Myung-wook’s layered works using lacquer (ottchil) illustrated the accumulation of time and environment, echoing whisky maturation. Guests then sampled Suntory whiskies—Hakushu 12, Yamazaki 12 and Hibiki 21—guided by Suntory ambassador bartender Moon Sun-mi, who explained Hibiki’s idea of balance (natural cycles represented by the bottle’s 24 facets). Each whisky was paired with dishes by chef Bae Jun to highlight complementary flavors: sea-flavored pairings with Hakushu, earthy mushroom and Jeju pork with Yamazaki, and smoked “Bonghwa duck” with the rich Hibiki 21. The event linked the artist’s “time layers,” whisky’s aging, and the chef’s balance into a single sensory narrative. The art-dining runs Dec 12–14 with reservations via CatchTable. Tip: hold whisky in the mouth briefly to open aromas before swallowing for a fuller experience.
