KT&G Earns MSCI ESG's Top 'AAA' Rating — First in Its Industry

South Korea’s KT&G announced it received the highest 'AAA' ESG rating from MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International), the first tobacco-sector company to do so. MSCI evaluates some 8,500 listed firms globally across seven tiers from AAA to CCC. KT&G was rated top among nine global tobacco firms this year, after four straight years at AA. Key strengths cited were strong corporate governance (board composed of 75% outside directors, separation of CEO and chair, and independent committees), systematic supply-chain due diligence and oversight (ranked first among peers for supply-chain labor management), responsible marketing practices, and expanded water reuse infrastructure. KT&G’s ESG officer said the rating confirms the company’s structured ESG management and pledged continued focus on governance, environmental measures, and supply-chain oversight.
