Hallasan National Park in Jeju will switch its parking charges from a flat rate to time-based fees starting January 1, the first increase in 27 years. Passenger cars currently pay a flat 1,800 won; under the new system vehicles will pay 1,000 won for the first hour and 500 won for each additional 20 minutes, capped at 13,000 won per day. The same rule applies to motorcycles, small vans (under 15 seats) and light trucks (under 1 ton). Larger vans (16+ seats) and trucks (1 ton and over) will be charged 2,000 won for the first hour and 800 won per additional 20 minutes. The previous parking exemption for people aged 65 and over will be removed. Camping and coin shower fees will also rise (camping: large site from 6,000 to 9,000 won; coin showers: 600 to 1,000 won) to reflect upgraded facilities. Authorities say the changes aim to ease parking congestion on Route 110 and ensure fair use among visitors.
