Jeon Heung-ja, a natural-dye artist from Yangyang, will hold a solo exhibition titled "The Language of Plants, The Memory of Color" from Dec. 15–19 at the Yangyang County Culture and Welfare Center. A PhD in agricultural science and a nature artist, Jeon reinterprets traditional Korean natural dyeing techniques on materials like hanji (traditional Korean paper), silk, ramie, and hemp, using dyes made from local wild plants. Her work treats color not merely as expression but as a record of plants, soil, sunlight and time, capturing seasonal and ecological layers within textiles. Inspired by childhood memories of watching her mother dye fabrics, Jeon explores the boundary between remembrance and forgetting, aiming to revive nature’s language and emphasize the artistic and cultural value of regional traditional techniques.
