Consumers Misled: 'Goosedown' Jackets Often Contain Little or No Goose Feather

A Korea Consumer Agency investigation found that some online fashion platforms sold 'goosedown' (거위털) padded jackets that contained far less goose feather than advertised — and in some cases were made with duck down (덕다운) or very low goose content. Of 24 products checked across four platforms (W Concept, Musinsa, Ably, Zigzag), five failed to meet the 80% goose-down standard; one product had only about 6% goose feather. Two items were labeled as 'goose' on sales pages but listed 'duck down' on the actual product tags, with real goose content between 1.9% and 4.7%. Some products also had incorrect or missing fill-power and feather/downs composition (솜털·깃털) labels, and mandatory manufacturer contact details were absent or shown only in foreign languages. Although fill performance and safety tests passed, the Consumer Agency urged buyers to check product labels on delivery because online listings can be inaccurate. Seven sellers have paused sales or corrected listings and offered refunds or exchanges; platforms pledged stronger monitoring and penalties. The Consumer Agency will keep sharing related information on the 'Consumer24' (소비자24) website to prevent recurring clothing-related consumer harm.
