Japanese retail brand UNIQLO completed its domestic phase of “The Heart of LifeWear” campaign by donating 60,000 HEATTECH items to about 30,000 low-income, single elderly people in Korea. The global program aims to provide 1 million HEATTECH garments to vulnerable groups worldwide; Korea’s distribution was carried out with the national Single Elderly Comprehensive Support Center (독거노인종합지원센터) and local elder care service agencies under the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s customized care program (노인맞춤돌봄서비스). The three-week effort reached recipients across 16 provinces and cities and was supplemented by a community “kimchi-making” (김장) volunteer event in Eunpyeong, Seoul, where UNIQLO staff, volunteers and singer Bada prepared kimchi to deliver to about 900 isolated seniors. UNIQLO increased its donation by 10,000 HEATTECH this year in recognition of Korea’s rapidly aging society and said it will continue the campaign to help elderly people stay warm during harsh winters.
