CJ Olive Young, South Korea’s largest cosmetics retail chain, plans to open four offline stores in the United States next year (up from an initial plan of three), focusing on California where K-beauty is already familiar. The first store will open in May in Pasadena at a former Foot Locker site near an Apple store; a second will follow at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles, and a third at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance in September. Olive Young says the U.S. — the world’s biggest cosmetics market — is a priority to build an overseas foothold and to target fashion-forward MZ consumers (Millennials and Gen Z). The retailer aims to bring around 400 K-beauty brands and other global cosmetics names into these experiential stores so customers can try products in-person, strengthening the K-beauty ecosystem. Olive Young expects to surpass KRW 5 trillion in sales this year and sees U.S. stores as strategic hubs for further international expansion.
