The National Heritage Service opens a special exhibition, “Cookie Run: In Search of Lost National Heritage,” at Deoksugung’s Dondeokjeon from Sept 9 until March 1. Using the popular mobile game Cookie Run IP, the show spans two floors (about 250 pyeong) and is organized into five sections following Brave Cookie and friends on a journey tied to the dreams of Emperor Gojong. Highlights include three imaginative Cookie Run paintings of the Korean Empire’s royal heritage, some 40 artifacts, and special works by five holders of national intangible heritage skills. The first floor features modern relics and a 27-meter LED media wall—unusual for Korean museums—immersing visitors in an imagined old Hanyang (historic name for Seoul) and present-day Seoul scenes. Traditional crafts—fans, knots, instruments—created by heritage holders are on display, and a restored imperial seal (Daehan Guksae) reconstructed from records after its loss during the Korean War is shown. A media art piece about the 2025 Natural Heritage tree, Sokr-ri Jeongipumsong, also screens on the first floor.
