Global brand UNIQLO completed a donation of 60,000 HeatTech garments to about 30,000 low-income single seniors in South Korea as part of its global ‘The Heart of LifeWear’ program, which aims to provide 1 million HeatTech pieces to vulnerable groups worldwide. Working with the National Center for Supporting Older Adults Living Alone (독거노인종합지원센터) and local welfare agencies running the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s elderly care service (노인맞춤돌봄서비스), UNIQLO distributed roughly 10 billion KRW worth of garments across 16 provinces over three weeks. The company increased its donation by 10,000 items from last year in response to rising elderly poverty amid Korea’s aging society. To mark the delivery, UNIQLO staff and volunteers held a “love kimchi-making” (김장 나눔) event at Eunpyeong Senior Welfare Center in Seoul, preparing and delivering kimchi to about 900 nearby seniors; singer Bada participated in the volunteer activity. UNIQLO says the effort reflects its LifeWear philosophy to improve daily life and that it will continue the campaign to help seniors stay warm during cold winters.
