An exhibition of American contemporary artist Larry Pitmen (래리 피트먼) is on view at LehmannMaupin Seoul in Yongsan until the 27th. The show presents 10 large-scale works from two 2015 series, Caprichos and Nocturne. The Caprichos (inspired by Francisco Goya’s print series 'Los Caprichos') combine masks, explosions, dominoes and Emily Dickinson’s Civil War-era lines to critique modern violence and power—turning Goya’s satirical exposure of hypocrisy into a contemporary indictment of rising fascism and repeated brutality. The Nocturne series shifts to quieter black-and-white, cosmic scenes with floating robot-like figures and bird motifs, reflecting recovery and the artist’s idea of night as a time of bodily release. Pitmen says he revisits these works because their message remains relevant amid global rightward shifts. (LehmannMaupin: the gallery name)
