Smartphones Compete with DSLRs and Drones in Korea’s National Tourism Photo Contest

The Korea Tourism Organization showcased winners of the 2025 National Tourism Photo Contest at HiKR Ground in Seoul, highlighting fierce competition among smartphone (폰카), digital camera (디카) and drone categories. From 7,439 entries and three rounds of judging including public votes, 97 works were selected. The grand prize (Presidential Award) went to a drone shot “Autumn at Jucheon” (이정희) capturing vivid fall colors and reflections. Three gold prizes included moments like the falling-flower ritual at Mujinjeong, a frozen-winter seaside, and a smartphone-captured mystical sunrise at Maisan (마이산). The exhibition runs until Dec. 28 and features additional travel photos from Frame Korea; winning images are also available on PhotoKorea (photo.visitkorea) which offers about 100,000 free digital photos for promotional use. The organizer said the show aims to share Korea’s scenic stories and inspire visitors worldwide.
