South Gyeongsang Province (Gyeongsangnam-do) has recommended 18 winter and year-end travel spots across 18 cities and counties to help visitors forget the cold and enjoy romantic seasonal sights. Two destinations highlight night views: Jinhae Botanic Museum in Changwon with colorful Christmas lights, and the 10th Jinju Christmas Tree Festival at Jinju Daechup History Park. Five sunrise spots include Yi Sun-sin Park in Tongyeong (views of the sun rising over Hansando), Jangseungpo Waterfront Park in Geoje (site of a year-end fireworks festival), Sotbawi rock in Uiryeong (a legendary rock said to bring wealth), Geumosan in Hadong, and Cheonwangbong peak at Jirisan in Sancheong for dramatic sea-of-clouds sunrises. Five unique experience sites feature Bito Island in Sacheon for coastal ecology and camping without boarding a boat, Gwallyongsa Yongseondae in Changnyeong (site of a stone Buddha statue tied to wish-making legend), Seolri Skywalk in Namhae for illuminated evening views, Daebong Skyland monorail in Hamyang for easy winter summit access, and Gayasan in Hapcheon for serene winter mountain scenery. The remaining six spots offer family-friendly winter activities, history, and science experiences: Gimhae Gaya Theme Park (seasonal snow sledding), Miryang Arirang Space Observatory for stargazing, Eden Valley Ski Resort in Yangsan (the region’s only ski area), Haman Museum and Malyisan Tumuli for Aragaaya history, Goseong’s eagle ecology center (feeding and observing protected eagles), and Suseungdae sledding in Geochang. Parentheses note: Yi Sun-sin Park (named after the famed Korean admiral Yi Sun-sin), Sotbawi ("cauldron rock" with a local legend), and Aragaaya (an ancient Gaya confederacy).
