Late autumn on Jeju Island: the Dakmeore (local name meaning “chicken head”) coastal path in Sinchon-ri offers easy access to shimmering eulalia (억새) fields, wind-swept trails and dramatic sea-rock formations — a perfect spot for sunset views. The Dakmeore trail is part of Jeju Coastal Trail Course 50 and links to a small wetland pond, Namsaeng-i Pond (named for a freshwater turtle-like creature), now a bird and wildlife habitat. Further south, Hwasun Gotjawal (a unique Jeju forest type; 곶자왈) features mossy rocks, tangled roots and rare plants and birds in microclimates created by lava-formed terrain. Nearby Andeok Valley is a scenic gorge with vertical cliffs, rock-cut caves and rich subtropical flora; it has served as a filming location and historical refuge. For local flavor, the humble “Dalpaengi” restaurant near Andeok serves a home-style set meal including cheonggukjang and grilled bulgogi. Close by, the secluded Gobaegi-dongsan cedar grove in Gwangpyeong-ri — planted after postwar village rebuilding and tied to the local Ja-cheong-bi folk legend (자청비) — offers a peaceful, photogenic spot for relaxation and nature walks.
