The Czech Tourism Board says festive Christmas markets are open across the country for Advent (the four-week period leading up to Christmas). Major cities including Prague, Brno and Český Krumlov are lit with decorations, music and small performances. Visitors can enjoy winter foods like mulled wine, trdelník (a sweet rolled pastry), Czech-style ham and sausages, and sugar-coated nuts, and buy handmade glass, ceramic and wood crafts from local artisans. Classical concerts, carols and organ performances in venues such as the Klementinum Mirror Chapel and St. Nicholas Church add to the seasonal atmosphere. Key market closing dates range from Dec. 23 to Jan. 6 depending on the city.
