World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Deputy Director General Andrew Staines and colleagues visited APR’s headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul on Dec. 4 to discuss strengthening intellectual property (IP) protection and cooperation as K-beauty expands globally. APR showcased its growth and beauty device products, and explained ongoing international filings including PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty), Hague (international design) and Madrid (international trademark) applications. The meeting highlighted the need for robust international IP protection and dispute-resolution systems to support Korean beauty exporters. WIPO, a UN agency founded in 1967 with 194 member states (Korea joined in 2004), is exploring ways to help APR and other Korean firms continue smooth global operations, including offering IP valuation and finance training in partnership with Korea’s intellectual property office. APR said stronger WIPO collaboration will help its innovations spread more securely.
