Château Mouton Rothschild unveiled its 2023 vintage art label for the first time worldwide in Seoul on December 1, with Korean importer Enoteca Korea chosen again as one of four global partners to host the premiere. The label features Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos’s work “Paraíso (Paradise),” the first time a Portuguese artist has been selected in the label’s 100-year history. Vasconcelos, known for large-scale installations and inventive use of everyday crafts, adapted her graphic sensibility to the small canvas of a wine label, centering a grape cluster and symbolically depicting terroir elements—soil, water, sunlight, cool nights—and human care as complementary puzzle pieces. Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild praised her fusion of craft and contemporary themes like feminism and community identity. The 2023 wine is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, noted for ripe blackberry aromas, dark chocolate and candy notes, smooth texture, firm tannins, smoky pencil-lead and cherry nuances, and long hazelnut-cocoa finish. Vasconcelos’s international acclaim includes Venice Biennale recognition and high-profile shows at Versailles and the Uffizi; she often reinterprets traditional Portuguese azulejos (ceramic tiles) and crafts in her work.
