Nana (real name Na Hye-young), a leading Korean jazz vocalist who spent over a decade performing in New York, will hold a special year-end jazz concert at Pinodia Art Hall 500 in Sokcho tomorrow at 7 PM. The concert, hosted by Pinodia to thank locals and tourists, will feature Nana’s originals, a rendition of Nat King Cole’s “Mona Lisa,” and jazz reinterpretations of Italian song “Vagabondo (방랑자)” and iconic Korean songs including Cho Yong-pil’s “Gangwon-do Arirang” (a regional version of the traditional Korean folk song Arirang) and “Song of the Wind.” Five top Korean jazz musicians — guitarist Lee Ju-bong, contrabassist Im Song-hyuk, drummer Im Ju-heon, pianist Lee Mi-young, and saxophonist Bae Seong-il — will accompany her. The venue, Pinodia, is a cultural complex in Sokcho restored from a long-abandoned building after the 1999 expo; it now houses galleries and performance spaces including the newly opened Art Hall 500, helping boost Sokcho’s cultural profile.
