The Cultural Heritage Administration and the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage will hold an academic conference on the digital restoration of Kaesong Manwoldae at Korea University on the 5th. The event unveils results from a five-year digital restoration project (2021–2026) that reconstructed the 1,000-year-old Goryeo palace site using historical verification and VR content based on joint South-North excavations conducted from 2007 to 2018. Presentations will cover the significance of joint excavations, digital restoration outcomes, and architectural restoration challenges. Detailed sessions include HBIM-based digital architectural restoration, reconstruction designs for Hoegyeongjeon and Gyeongnyeongjeon (palace halls), dancheong (traditional multicolored painting) restoration, compilation of a South-North historical terminology dictionary, disaster and ritual practices in Goryeo-era Kaegyeong (Gaegyeong — the Goryeo capital), and restoration of roof tiles and celadon research. A panel will discuss content production, usage, and North–South cultural heritage cooperation. The conference is open to the public without prior registration.
