Hyundai Vice Chairman Jang Jaehun: Internalizing Next-Generation Full Self-Driving Is Key

Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Jang Jaehun said at the World Hydrogen Expo 2025 CEO Summit that the company’s priority is to internalize next-generation full self-driving technology rather than focus only on current commercial-level systems. He emphasized preparing for the next technological step and noted Motional (Hyundai’s U.S. autonomous driving joint venture) is developing robo-taxis. Jang also discussed hydrogen and energy partnerships: active cooperation with Toyota on hydrogen standards and tanks, and ongoing talks with GM on batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, though some technical differences remain. He said Hyundai is integrating energy, robots, and AI into its strategy to move beyond a vertically integrated auto business to a more horizontal energy approach.
