Perfect Half-Day Trip from Seoul: Watch the Sunset at Yedanpo Port

A writer revisits Yedanpo Port (예단포항) on Yeongjong Island for a short winter seaside escape and walking exercise. The beach trail has comfortable palm-mat (야자 매트) coverings and offers healing views of the wide sea, though the entire path is only about 2,000 steps one way so they walked it back and forth to get more exercise. The writer enjoyed friendly fellow walkers who offered to take photos, and stopped at a local seafood kalguksu restaurant called “0원이네” serving a rich broth filled with mussels, abalone, octopus, clams and surf clams. They missed seeing the perfect sunset but say leaving some longing is a reason to return. Yedanpo Port is easy to reach via Airport Railroad to Yeongjong Station plus bus or taxi, or by car across Yeongjong Bridge—good as a half-day getaway from the Seoul metropolitan area. The writer plans a next beach walk on the boardwalk at Hanagae Beach on Muuido island.
