China Eastern Airlines launched a new route connecting Shanghai Pudong and Buenos Aires (Argentina) today, using a Boeing 777-300ER on flight MU745. The airline markets the roughly 20,000 km link as the world’s longest direct air route. The service operates twice weekly and makes a two-hour technical stop in Auckland, New Zealand, for refueling and crew change, so it is not a true nonstop flight. Scheduled flight time is about 25 hours from Shanghai and about 29 hours from Buenos Aires. The current longest nonstop route remains Singapore–New York (about 15,000 km).
