Ulsan’s Tehwa Complex cultural space 'Mandi' is hosting an invited exhibition by industrial photographer Jo Chun-man from the 7th to the 31st on the first-floor exhibition halls. Titled “Aesthetics of Creation–Dismantling–Return,” the show features about 40 photographs exploring industrial processes and their life cycles. The first section, 'Creation', presents large-scale images of shipbuilding and oil-rig construction. The second, 'Dismantling', displays dissected consumer electronics and machinery—phone, computer, exercise equipment—laid out flat. The final section, 'Return', documents a long-abandoned steelworks in Germany (Völklingen Ironworks) being reclaimed by nature. Jo, who worked as a welder in his youth, uses his firsthand experience with steel and machines to argue that industrial objects carry aesthetic and human meaning beyond being rough or desolate; the exhibition aims to visually articulate the origins and aesthetics of technological structures and their transformation.
