Luxury or Joke? Louis Vuitton’s 1.41 Million KRW Fish-Shaped Keyring Sparks Outrage

Louis Vuitton released an LV “bungeoppang” (fish-shaped Korean pastry) keyring priced at about 1.41 million KRW, prompting widespread online ridicule that it looks like a cheap 1,000-won novelty unless you spot the logo. The brand describes it as a cultural homage and a mini pouch for travelers and dessert lovers. This launch is part of a trend where luxury houses sell everyday-item-inspired accessories—donut, croissant, tape, take-away box, and even trash-bag designs—from LV, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Celine, Bottega Veneta and others, often at very high prices. Designers argue transforming mundane objects into luxury pieces is creative innovation, and despite criticism, some items (like Vetements’ DHL T-shirt) have become popular and sold out, showing that such ironic, novelty luxury can capture public interest.
