Deputy Minister Koo Hyuk-chae of the Ministry of Science and ICT visited AI-bio firm Protina to inspect protein interaction analysis technology and discuss an "AI-Bio National Strategy" draft. The visit, part of the ministry's field-driven 'Project Sympathy 118', gathered experts from industry, academia, research institutes and hospitals to review plans for building AI-bio models, industrial application, ecosystem creation, data access and infrastructure support. Koo emphasized that AI is enabling previously impossible biological research—citing AI-based protein structure prediction (which won last year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry)—and called for coordinated national-level action to secure leadership in AI-bio. The ministry will refine the strategy incorporating expert feedback. (Protina: Korean biotech company)
