Yeongdeungpo Time Square, Seoul’s largest southwest complex mall opened in 2009, remains popular with younger customers through trend-focused strategies. The 16-year-old mall draws about 70,000 visitors on weekdays and 100,000 on weekends and expects combined mall and department store sales of 1.3 trillion won this year. To attract MZ generation shoppers (Millennials and Gen Z), the mall hosts frequent K-pop idol and character pop-up stores, runs themed spaces like a 350-pyeong Christmas display with a 13-meter tree and LED light shows, and recently opened specialized pop-up zones for fashion and F&B. Time Square has staged over 800 performances and exhibitions, launched its own character “Tams Friends” (mall-owned character IP), and rolled out a new concert series, all boosting foot traffic and pop-up revenues. Management says continued cultural programming and immersive experiences are key to sustaining offline retail relevance.
