Cho Nam-kyu, chairman of the Korea Dance Association and professor at Sangmyung University, was appointed as an operating member of the 22nd Presidential Committee on Peaceful Reunification (Minjupyeongtong) and received his commission from President Lee Jae-myung on Nov. 2 at KINTEX in Goyang. Cho, who has served as a cultural heritage committee member at the Cultural Heritage Administration, will be the sole arts and culture professional among the committee’s functional operating members. He begins a two-year term on Nov. 1 and will advise on national unification policy, leveraging the connective power of arts to promote public consensus on peace and reunification. The Presidential Committee on Peaceful Reunification is a constitutional body established in the early 1980s to formulate and promote cross-party, national-level unification policies. The 22nd committee launched activities last month under new Senior Vice-Chair Lee Hae-chan and comprises 46 members including vice-chairs and overseas and sectoral operating members.
