City symphony orchestras and choirs across Gangwon Province are staging a series of year-end concerts in Chuncheon, Wonju, and Gangneung, offering audiences diverse programs from film music to Christmas classics and major choral symphonies. Chuncheon Symphony will mark Camille Saint-Saëns’ 190th birthday with works including “The Carnival of the Animals” and Symphony No.3, featuring pianist Jo Jae-hyuk and the ShinPark Duo. Chuncheon City Choir presents a “cine-opera” (cine-opera: a concert blending film music and operatic choral arrangements) of familiar film scores. In Wonju, the city choir and orchestra perform Handel’s Messiah and later Mahler’s Symphony No.2 “Resurrection,” exploring themes of death and rebirth. In Gangneung, the city choir’s “Together for Christmas” program and the city orchestra’s performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 “Choral” involve multiple local choirs and soloists, closing the season with powerful choral finales. Concert dates and venues vary across the three cities through December.
