French luxury house Louis Vuitton released an ‘LV fish-shaped pastry (붕어빵) bag charm’ made from Italian leather and priced at 1.41 million won. The product page describes it as a pouch-sized accessory good for small items, travel, or dessert lovers. The high price drew criticism after netizens pointed out similar fish-shaped coin pouch keyrings are available at Daiso (a Korean 1,000-won shop) for just 1,000 won. Online communities mocked the item as a price for design and vanity, accusing luxury brands of profiting from consumers’ aspirations. Louis Vuitton has previously launched other food-shaped charms — donuts, croissants, chocolates, biscuits, and fortune cookies — also priced in the million-won range.
