Actress Gu Hye-sun Wins KAIST Special Award for Innovative Flat Hair Roll

Actress and KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) master’s student Gu Hye-sun received a special creativity award from KAIST for her work on a redesigned hair roller called “Kuroll.” Selected among 19 teams under KAIST’s new QAIST strategy (Creativity, Research, Internationalization, Technology value creation, Trust and Communication), Gu launched Kuroll last month in collaboration with hair-care brand Grabity and manufacturer Polyphenol Factory. The patented flat, wave-molded silicone-laminated roller improves portability, environmental impact and function compared with traditional round rollers. It can be easily unfolded and folded, size-adjusted, and features a self-restoring snap action that needs no heat or electricity to return to shape.
