A recent survey by the Milk Management Committee (우유자조금관리위원회) of 3,000 consumers found that freshness is the most important factor when buying milk. 60% of respondents ranked freshness first, and 66.7% mainly buy fresh milk; over 70% prefer fresh milk when including mixed purchases. Short shelf life was the key sign of freshness for many, and 60.4% knew domestic fresh milk reaches stores within 2–3 days after milking. In contrast, awareness of sterilized (멸균우유) imported milk was low: 68% did not know imported sterilized milk can take over three months to arrive, and many consumers cited long shelf life and concerns about milk quality. About 61.8% said they will continue to choose fresh milk, and 87% showed some intention to buy it, citing freshness, taste, nutrition and health image. The committee emphasized that clear information on origin, production and distribution helps consumers make better choices, and the industry sees transparency and freshness as key competitive strengths.
