The Korean licensed revival of the Broadway musical Beetlejuice opens at LG Arts Center Seoul on Dec 16, re-staging the 2019 show after its 2021 Korean debut. Lead actors Kim Junsu, Jung Sunghwa, and Jeong Wonyoung discussed their approaches to the title role at a press event, aiming to balance the character’s creepy humor with human empathy. This production preserves the Broadway replica staging (including aerial effects, large puppets, and shifting sets by designer David Korins) while adapting comedic timing to Korean audiences with writer-comedian Lee Chang-ho as comedy adapter. The show raises the minimum age to 8 and emphasizes a darker, edgier humor. Director Matt DiCarlo and Korean collaborators stress that the piece is both a spectacle and an intimate story about life, family, and love. Performances run through March 22; returning Lydia actors Hong Nahyun and Jang Minje are among the cast.
