“This Is the Moment”: Jang In-hee’s Shimmering Solo Show 'Serenity in Splendor'

Artist Jang In-hee presents 'Serenity in Splendor' at Geumsan Gallery in Seoul until the 12th, using thousands of hand-cut mirror PET film pieces to visualize 'this moment' through light, reflection, and layered time. The improvised scissors-cut fragments—each unique—are recombined like puzzles to form figurative and abstract images; up close they sparkle and reflect the viewer, while from a distance recognizable forms emerge. New works include playful character references (e.g., Gargamel, Tom, Bunny, Betty Boop, Snow White, Mickey Mouse) and pieces exploring the sculptural energy of single Hangul characters such as '복' (bok, meaning luck) and '꽃' (kkot, meaning flower). Trained at SAIC and Hongik University, Jang frames memory, identity, and the flux of time through repetitive cutting and reassembly, creating surfaces that change with light and viewer presence.
