A commemorative event will be held on October 24th at Jin-gwan Temple in Seoul to honor the late Kang Sun-young (1925-2016), a renowned Korean traditional dance master. She was a disciple of Han Seong-jun and played a vital role in preserving traditional dances like Taepyeongmu, Hallyangmu, and Seungmu. Acknowledged as an Intangible Cultural Heritage holder for Taepyeongmu, Kang also led the first Korean dance group to perform in the Paris International Folk Arts Festival in 1960 and later at New York's Lincoln Center. Her students, along with monks from Jin-gwan Temple, will perform commemorative dances to celebrate her 100th birthday anniversary. The ceremony will feature traditional memorial rituals, including dance performances by disciples and the Jin-gwan Temple's Sea and Land Ceremony Preservation Group.
