JoongAng Ilbo celebrated its 60th anniversary with the 'Phantom Singer IN LOVE' concert at Seoul’s Sejong Center on Oct. 28, showcasing the genre-blending strength of the JTBC crossover audition show Phantom Singer. Performers included winners and contestants from various seasons—Liberante (리베란테), Gil Byeong-min, John Noh, and judges/music director Kim Moon-jung and Ok Joo-hyun—joined by the specially formed The M.C. Orchestra. The program ranged from musical overtures (Beauty and the Beast) and canzone-style pieces like “Dettagli” to classical arias and pop standards. Liberante energized the crowd with tight harmonies highlighting baritone No Hyun-woo’s rich lower register supporting tenors Kim Ji-hoon and Jinwon. John Noh, the classically trained tenor, performed musical numbers with precise high notes, while Gil Byeong-min impressed with a heartfelt rendition of the Korean art song “Majung” (마중). Musical diva Ok Joo-hyun closed the show with powerful musical theater performances, including “The Greatest Love of All.” The finale featured a curtain-call chorus of “Seasons of Love,” and the celebration continues with subsequent performances featuring La Poem (라포엠), soprano Park So-young, conductor Yeo Ja-kyung, and the KBS Symphony Orchestra.
