Ahn Seong-ha (48), known as the “candy painter,” presents a major new exhibition in Busan titled The Still Point of Seeing from Dec 2, 2025 to Feb 20, 2026 at Soul Art Space, celebrating its 20th anniversary. For the first time in a large-scale project, Ahn fills the show entirely with new works from his long-running “candy” series—about 20 paintings—alongside other signature series like “cigarette,” “cork,” and “soap.” A dedicated section reveals for the first time photographic works used in his process, exposing the artist’s creation method. His candy images juxtapose glossy sweetness with themes of disappearance and the traces of time: distorted objects in glass, melting colors, and enlarged sweets losing form to evoke transience and emotion. Critics praise the work for revealing a “still point of seeing” where disappearance, presence, movement, and stasis meet. Ahn trained at Hongik University, gained early recognition in major Korean art competitions, exhibited internationally (New York, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Stockholm), and is known for finely rendered everyday objects that metaphorically explore memory and impermanence.
