Daejeon Design Center has added 15 new locations to its ‘Daejeon Design Hot Spot’ program, bringing the total to 50 sites that showcase design-driven spaces across the city. The citizen-participation project highlights places where design improves daily life—shops, cafes, bars, galleries, and cultural centers that combine local identity with creative practice. Featured spots include stationery-focused The Prelude Shop, pottery-and-tableware Shop Peak, Hongik Coffee Bar (home of the café’s mascot dog “Yoji”), the hybrid Church & Dance Hall performance café, Boogie with its African-inspired craft displays, and Sake Bar Kurozaru offering curated sake experiences. Community hubs like CAP Project host small cultural programs and publish a local magazine, while independent bookstore Dadar-da and exhibition space NOTO present curated books and avant-garde design. Educational and nature sites include the KAIST Museum (on the KAIST campus), the historic Daejeon Creative Center, the preserved 1929 “pointed house” architecture, Healing Forest with therapy and wellness programs, and Hanbat Arboretum for urban nature and landscape design. Together, these venues invite visitors and residents to discover design in everyday life, from crafted objects to communal cultural experiences.
