Hills, Markets and Street Food: Popular Korean Filming Locations in Two Hit Office DramasCreatrip Team
4 months ago
Two recent Korean office dramas, “Kim Bu-jang Story” (JTBC) and “Typhoon Trading” (tvN), feature familiar Seoul and regional settings that resonate with everyday workers. “Kim Bu-jang Story,” about a middle-aged corporate manager facing job loss, uses real Seoul backdrops like Teheran-ro, bridges (Cheongdam and Banpo), and the landmark Centerfield building in Yeoksam. The show’s tavern scenes were filmed in the back alleys of Euljiro4-ga, an area that has become a hotspot for younger crowds and tourists. A scene where the character hikes to find a retired executive was shot at Aegibong on Bulamsan (a 204m hill) in Namyangju — an easy 10-minute climb from Bulamsa parking with wide views popular with families and novice hikers.
“Typhoon Trading,” about a young tradesman navigating a new export business, highlights traditional markets across Seoul (Dongmyo, Shinseol-dong, Dongducheon, Changsin) and coastal settings in Busan, including Songjeong Port, Songdo Beach, and Gamcheon fish market. The show also filmed Bangkok locations for a business trip plotline, featuring the Chao Phraya River, Chinatown, and the Damnoen Saduak floating market (a famous tourist spot where small boats sell food and goods along narrow canals). Both dramas use everyday Korean places—old markets, seaside stalls (pojangmacha), and neighborhood alleys—to create relatable, local atmospheres that connect with viewers.
