Pianist Seong-Yeol Eum will perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand with the Going Home Project orchestra on Dec. 9 at Goyang Aram Art Center (Aram Music Hall). The concerto was composed for Paul Wittgenstein, a pianist who lost his right arm in World War I, and is notable for its technical and sonic demands played entirely with the left hand. The Going Home Project, founded in 2022 by Korean-born and Korea-based musicians, is led by conductor and concertmaster Svetlin Roussev and music director Seong-Yeol Eum. The concert will also feature Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (the Choral Symphony) performed without intermission, expanding on a previously sold-out program; soloists include soprano Hong Hye-ran, mezzo-soprano Kim Hyo-na, tenor Choi Won-hwi, and bass Lee Dong-hwan. This Ravel performance marks the first live presentation of the piece in Korea by Eum following a recording released in March with the Residence Orchestra and Anja Bilmaier.
