Chungcheongbuk-do (Chungbuk) converted the closed Daehue school in Cheongcheon-myeon, Goesan County into a family-oriented rural facility called ‘Nongsomak’ (a reused rural school lodging). The province purchased the 1993-closed school with 2.2 billion won and remodeled it into accommodations (four double rooms, two quadruple rooms), a multipurpose ‘Together Space’ (다함께공간), five camping sites, and a lawn plaza. Nongsomak has been praised for its versatility — hosting family stays, workshops, and cultural events — and was awarded the top prize at the NABIS Balanced Development Content Awards hosted by the Presidential Committee on the Local Era. Chungbuk officials plan to work with locally selected young private operators to develop Nongsomak as a regional attraction that revitalizes rural communities and addresses population decline.
