Cheongju, in Chungbuk province, will host a UNESCO Creative Cities Network vision proclamation on December 2 at the Cheongju Cultural Factory (Cheongju Munhwa Jejochang). The event celebrates the city’s final selection in the ‘Crafts and Folk Art’ category and will include congratulatory performances, the commissioning of “Creative Leaders 100” (a group of 100 citizens tasked with advising on and promoting the city’s craft vision), a joint reading of the vision declaration, and a sustainable-message activity on a “Creative Tree.” After the ceremony, two exhibitions open in the main gallery: a glasscraft special exhibition “Glass: Poetry, Time, Place” (runs until Jan 25) and an in-residence craft studio show “Warmth: Layered and Scattered” (until Dec 21). Cheongju plans long-term strategies—new ordinances, craft-friendly urban branding, grassroots craft movements, talent development, industry activation, globalization of Cheongju craft culture, and international network growth—plus wider craft-based policies across education, design, industry, and tourism. The mayor called UNESCO membership a key boost to the city’s international standing. The proclamation and exhibitions are open to the public.
