U.S. burger brand Jecus prepares to expand into Korea’s growing 5-trillion-won burger market

U.S. burger brand Jecus (launched 2014 by Texas Roadhouse founder Kent Taylor) is moving toward wider Korean expansion after its U.S. parent, JDC International LLC, registered a franchise disclosure with Korea’s Fair Trade Commission. Jecus was first introduced to Korea last year by Hyundai Green Food at a U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek. The Korean burger market has more than doubled in a decade to nearly 5 trillion won, driven by rising interest in premium and handmade burgers and fast adoption of global brands like Shake Shack and Five Guys. Korea’s high average spend per visit, rapid SNS-driven trends and role as a regional “testbed” make it attractive to foreign chains. Hyundai Green Food already operates the related Texas Roadhouse brand in Korea and may apply a similar franchise model to Jecus, though the company says no immediate franchise rollout is planned.
