Veteran actor Lee Soon-jae, who died at 91, is being mourned across Korea’s entertainment industry. Colleagues and former co-stars posted tributes and photos recalling his warmth, mentorship and long career spanning stage, film and television over seven decades. Actors Soyoujin, Lee Yeon-hee, Hwang Jung-eum, Yuri (Kwon Yuri of Girls’ Generation) and others shared memories of performing with him in productions such as Shakespeare’s King Lear and the plays Henri and the Herons (앙리 할아버지와 나) and noted his guidance to younger performers. Lee, a Seoul National University philosophy graduate who debuted in 1956, was celebrated for landmark TV roles and later stage work, including appearances that connected him with younger audiences. His funeral is at Seoul Asan Hospital; the family will hold the service on November 27. (앙리 할아버지와 나: the Korean title of the play “Henri and the Grandfather”)
