Pianist Noh Hyunjin Wins 1st Prize at Paderewski International Piano Competition

Pianist Noh Hyunjin (24), a Kumho Young Artist alumnus, took first place at the 13th Paderewski International Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, Poland, also earning three special prizes including the Mozart Concerto Award and the best performance of a Paderewski work. Another Korean contestant, Kim Ji-young (29), finished fourth, highlighting Korean pianists’ strong presence. The competition, founded in honor of Polish pianist and statesman Ignacy Jan Paderewski, is held every three years for pianists aged 18–32; this year 234 contestants from 36 countries competed. In the final, Noh performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5 “Emperor” Op.73 with the Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic. Noh debuted in 2014 through the Kumho Young Artists program and has notable international achievements, while Kim also has an impressive competition record and is studying at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig.
