Noh Hyunjin (25) won the 13th Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, Poland on the 22nd. The competition, held every three years since 1961, honors Polish pianist-composer and statesman Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Noh is the second Korean to win this prize after Lee Hyuk in 2016. A 2019 winner of the 45th JoongAng Music Competition (scoring highest across all categories), she was praised for her tonal variety and international potential. Noh studied at Seoul National University’s College of Music and is now enrolled in the Professional Studies program at the New England Conservatory in the U.S. The contest drew 234 applicants from 36 countries with preliminary rounds across Europe, Asia and North America; jurors included Piotr Paleczny (chair), Olga Kern and Ewa Poblotzka. Italy’s Cechino Elia and Taiwan’s Lin Pin-hong placed second and third, and Korea’s Kim Jinyoung finished fourth.
