Seodo Station, an abandoned 1932 wooden station in Namwon, is a late-autumn magnet for photographers and couples as its metasequoia and ginkgo trees turn fiery orange and yellow. The preserved single-story wooden waiting room (대합실) and old tracks create nostalgic photo spots, and the station even appeared in the TV drama “Mr. Sunshine.” Nearby cultural sites include the modern white Namwon Kim Byung-jong Museum (남원시립김병종미술관) showcasing the city-born painter’s works and large windows framing pine forests and Jirisan views; and the newly opened NK Gallery (앤케이갤러리), featuring moon jar (달항아리) exhibitions and hands-on pottery experiences using local clay. Food lovers can enjoy local specialties like soy-marinated crab (간장게장) and grilled hairtail at popular restaurants. Visitors can also stay or stroll in Namwon Yechon, a reconstructed hanok village (한옥) built by master craftsmen that reproduces traditional Korean house techniques, with clay-plastered earthen walls (황토벽) and cultural programs on pansori and traditional dance. These combined nature, art, craft, food and heritage experiences make Namwon a rich autumn getaway.
