Chuncheon’s signature food festival, the Makguksu-Dakgalbi Festival (often called 'MakDak Festival'), won the 2025 Local Government Content Awards’ top prize in the culture and tourism category at a ceremony in Seoul. This year the four-day festival moved from its usual site to the downtown Gongjicheon riverside and expanded into a city-centered, hybrid event featuring night markets, local restaurant booths, a farmers’ market, a food-tech exhibition, and an international pavilion. The city government took a stronger lead in planning alongside the festival committee and cultural foundation. Organizers emphasized programs that highlight local ingredients, participatory events for residents and tourists, and expanded cooperative initiatives with local businesses and farmers. The festival also promoted ESG values by encouraging reusable containers and car-free zones. Chuncheon plans to build on the award to position the city as a leading culinary tourism destination. (Makguksu: a cold buckwheat noodle dish; Dakgalbi: spicy stir-fried chicken)
