Hyundai is facing falling production at its Indian plants — 569,861 units in Q1–Q3 this year, down by over 20,000 from the same period last year — and lower factory utilization (92.9% in Jan–Sep). Increased competition from local makers like Tata Motors and Mahindra has trimmed Hyundai’s domestic sales. To reverse the trend, Hyundai plans to launch 26 new models in India by 2030, including a full redesign of the Venue small SUV and a Korea-focused compact electric SUV as an India-specific model. The company has started full operations at the Talegaon plant (acquired from GM) and aims to raise Talegaon’s output from about 180,000 to 250,000 units by 2028, targeting more than 1.1 million vehicles annually in India when combined with the Chennai plant. Hyundai’s strategy is to link new model launches with expanded local production and sales to break the current stagnation; even the premium Genesis brand may be introduced locally to boost growth.
